Paint a Pair of Shoes for Haiti
On March 31st and May 4th, 2010 a bunch of artistic souls gathered together here in the Hall at Standing Stone to paint
canvas shoes to be sent to Haiti through Soles4Souls. I had 54 pairs of unpainted shoes and a few already painted from my shoe painting days and, wanting to clear my clutter, took
the advice of a friend who said "Why don't you send them to Haiti?" That was a great idea and thought it would be fun to invite people to paint them before they were shipped out.
It took two rounds of people to get them all painted (three if you count Rebecca and I who finished up what pairs were left on May 5th) and everyone generously donated $5 per pair they painted to help with shipping costs. I took three boxes of shoes to the post office and after sending them off, had $81 dollars left to donate to Soles4Souls.
If you have a moment, go through your closets and see if you have any gently used shoes that you're ready to pass on and consider sending them to Soles4Souls. They may be the first pair of shoes a person in need somewhere in the world gets. Go to their website and click on "Locations", typ
e in your zip code and it will give you a list of local businesses that collect individual pairs of shoes to be shipped to Soles4Souls for distribution.
Thank you to all those who joined me for the Paint a Pair of Shoes for Haiti event and for your generous donations to help me cover the shipping costs.
Blessings,
Veronica
